February 2022: The Lunar New Year, Black History Month and A Free Beginner Yoga Series

Heart with Hands

Finally, in February, we welcome the return of the light with Candlemas on Feb 1 - the midway point between the Winter Solstice & the Spring Equinox. This year it also marks the Lunar New Year! You may have noticed an increase in energy as the days become lighter for longer.

Hopefully, you have spent some time in reflection and are starting to feel the call to begin to plant seeds to grow your vision for the New Year. February is a great time to get organized and dive deep into your goals for the New Year, but it is also a time to continue to nourish the water element and to "go with the flow".

The area of the body to focus on during this season are your Kidneys & Urinary System, the physical areas governed by the Water Element. We have shared previously about Back-Bending Practices and Foods to Nourish the Kidneys. View a NEW clip on our Instagram with experienced Yoga Teacher, Cora Wen, on the Lunar New Year of the Water Tiger!

Since this is also the month associated with Love, we want to encourage you to spend some extra time loving and taking care of yourself this month. One way to continue to foster this self-love is through your yoga practice.

We would like to offer some recommendations for practices to heal your hearts below as well as a discount through the end of February. Enjoy 20% off ALL Downloads in Our Store this month! Use Coupon Code LOVE20 at Checkout.

We LOVE you!
Sincerely,
Sara Agelasto

Free Videos and Recorded Classes with Kofi BusiaDuring this Black History Month, focused on Health & Wellness, we wanted to share some clips from a workshop with a Senior Teacher in the Iyengar Yoga Tradition. Kofi Busia studied directly with BKS Iyengar. The location of these recordings, the Jefferson School City Center,  is one of Charlottesville's first public high schools for African American children. The Charlottesville Community preserved and renovated this beautiful building, returning it to a vibrant center filled with meeting spaces and services for the local community. One of the incredible non-profits that is housed in this gorgeous space is Common Ground Healing Arts, where Kofi's workshops take place. Common Ground's mission is to provide complementary healing services like yoga, meditation, massage and acupuncture to the underserved communities in Charlottesville at affordable costs. Not only did Kofi host his annual workshops at Common Ground, but he has donated his portion of the proceeds from the sale of these recordings directly to Common Ground to support the incredible work they continue to do at the Jefferson School City Center. You can visit Our YouTube Channel for more recordings from these workshops and you can help support the work of Common Ground by purchasing these recordings on iHanuman.com.

Happy Lunar New Year of the Water Tiger! We asked experienced yoga teacher, Cora Wen, to share some thoughts with us on the Lunar New Year. Cora reminds us that the Year of the Rat (2020) was about survival and the Year of the Ox (2021) was about grounding ourselves into a new reality. This year (2022) the Water Tiger, is associated with Yang (masculine, active) energy. Tigers do things their own way and hate being told what to do, so this Year of the Tiger will be about change, risk-taking and adventure! You can view some original clips with Cora on iHanuman's Instagram. Cora will post extended videos on her Patreon account and will continue to share clips on Traditional Chinese Medicine and philosophy with iHanuman as we traverse the year of the Water Tiger!
