A Prayer for Thanksgiving

After a very powerful ceremony a few days ago, I woke up thinking of this blessing for Thanksgiving.

Hold Hands. Close your Eyes. Take a couple of deep breaths and drop the weight down into your feet. Feel your place on the ground. Give Thanks for the solid foundation on the earth and for this physical structure surrounding you; This beautiful home; a place for families to gather.

Take a few more deep breaths and draw the breath into the belly. Make space for the wonderful food which you are about to receive. All of this food which has been lovingly prepared by so many hands. And it is at this time that we remember all of those who are less fortunate. Those who are not afforded this bounty on Thanksgiving. Remember this as we nourish our bodies. Do not take that nourishment for granted in honor of those who go without.

Now bring your breath and your attention to your heart. Feel the love in this room. Feel the love you have for everyone here. And extend our circle out to the many members of this family who are not present. You can call them into the circle either silently or aloud. Invite them into the circle to share this loving meal. Hold each one in your heart as you enjoy being together with your loved ones today. Give Thanks!
