Journal Post

People who have never practiced yoga before often ask me to teach them a yoga pose. The Iyengar student in me cannot help but start by teaching Tadasana. People are often astounded by how much integrity and poise there is when conscious attention is brought to the simple act standing. They are amazed at how much attention can be brought to the four corners of the feet, the inner line of the legs, the lift of the knee caps and the release of the tailbone. Once we build the foundation. we move to the upper body and take a deep inhale to engage the abdomen, lift the sternum and lift and roll the shoulders back.
You create your reality by the thoughts that you think. Your attention is itself responsible for your life experience. No matter how awful the traffic jam is, how loud your neighbors are, how inconsiderate people may seem, how delayed the airplane is, you are the one who is in control of your reality.
Global MalaThe Global Mala Project is a day-long event honoring the Autumnal Equinox and the UN International Day of Peace. September 21 also marks the beginning of YomKippur - the Jewish High Holiday which marks their deepest day of intimacy with the Divine. It is a powerful time on earth and a powerful time to collectively bring energies together. The center of the event will be hosted at the Solar Powered Convention Center in Los Angeles, by such well-known teachers as Shiva Rea, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, Sean Corn, Julia Butterfly Hill and many others.
