I am an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level (E-RYT 200) through Yoga Alliance & have been practicing & teaching yoga for over 11 years. I am certified at the 200 hour level as a Prana Vinyasa Flow Teacher from Shiva Rea's Samudra Global School of Living Yoga in Venice, California. I am still connected to the Samudra Global School, where I serve as a mentor for teacher trainees & am in Shiva's assisting program.
I became interested in Eastern Philosophy in college when I read a book on Sufism from cover to cover (probably 108 times). It was the first time I experienced 'truth' in conjunction with spiritualism - but at that point, I wasn't making any sort of physical connection.
I found yoga while completing a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at the University of Virginia. The Integral Yoga Studio in Charlottesville (which is close to Yogaville) is where I was able to take unlimited monthly yoga at a student rate of $30/month. After 6 months of practicing (almost daily), I moved back to Virginia Beach, where I found Angela Phillips, with whom I still practice and teach for.
For several years I was on faculty at a variety of colleges - teaching courses in child psychology & lifespan development - my other science of truth. I extensively studied and applied principles of resiliency and positive psychology in work with at risk or high stress populations. Currently, I have a consulting business where I teach parents positive discipline strategies to promote children's healthy social and emotional development.
Several yoga teachers have guided me & inspired me - Angela Phillips, Shiva Rea, Kathleen Barrett, Twee Merrigan, Surya Lipscomb, Rod Stryker, & Nicki Doane.
Los Angeles, CA is my favorite place to train and practice. Other teachers that I am inspired by include Jo Tastula, Erich Schiffmann, Kathryn Budig, and Vinnie Marino.
