Diana Martinez is a Certified Intermediate Junior II teacher in the Iyengar tradition.
Diana felt attracted to the Eastern culture while she was studying Art History in the School of Architecture in Colombia, S.A. She had the opportunity to travel and live in Taiwan where she started her yoga studies with Sylvia Chiu in 1994. Encouraged by Mrs. Chiu, she decided to follow the teaching path. When she moved to the U.S. in 1997, she took her first Iyengar teacher training where she found the connection between her studies and the practice of yoga: “when you follow the steps and get to the most precise details, the mind is fully present, the body feels light and there is freedom.”
Her primary teachers are John Schumacher, Dean and Rebecca Lerner.
Diana provides clear instructions and responds with the needs of students with compassion. Her classes are infused with humor that keeps the students smiling even while learning a challenging pose.
Diana served as the Membership Chair for the IYASE (Iyengar Yoga Association Southeast) and also as the Co-Chair for the 2012 Regional Iyengar Yoga Conference in Washington D.C. She currently serves as the IYASE Representative for IYNAUS and is an IYNAUS Board member.
Diana is currently teaching at Fort Lee (Army Post) and at her home studio.
