Day 5 - It is Not ALL Bad

As I mentioned before, I have fasted for 7 - 14 days with NO food or even fruit juice at all. So cleansing and eliminating while still being able to eat some of my favorite foods makes me grateful. During the fasts at the Samui Dharma Healing Center we spent most of our days in classes and we talked a great deal about food and food combining. We even spend a day in the kitchen learning how to make delicious raw vegan treats. It is a bit tortuous to talk about food so often while you know you cannot have any of it.

Every year the SAME food tempts me during these classes and actually, they are foods that are still in my repertoire! So last night after 5 days of cleansing and eliminating some of my habitual foods, I made a delicious mexican fiesta for me and my husband. This meal consisted of black beans ( whole, dried, not canned ), rice, fresh tomato salsa and fresh guacamole. It was absolutely fabulous. The combination of spices, fresh food and citrus juice is what I crave. And I think if you have healthy cravings, this is a good thing.

I use Angelica Kitchen's recipe for soaking and cooking the black beans and then I just use fresh tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers, cumin, salt, pepper and lime juice for the fresh salsa. Avocado is one of the only non-local ingredients that I keep on my food list. It provides such good natural fat and oils and it is a delectable whole food. So as long as my body loves it, I will continue to eat it. The lime or lemon juice in the guacamole helps to digest the fat. Yum! I cannot wait for leftovers for lunch.
